Member of Parliament for Subin Kofi Obiri Yeboah has accused President John Dramani Mahama of being in breach of Act 236 of the land Act with his directive to the Lands Commission on state lands.

Mr Obiri Yeboah argued that acquiring property, solely or jointly is enshrined in the 1992 constitution and individuals have the constitutional rights to acquire property and when they do, they also have the right to decide what they want to do with their property.
President John Dramani Mahama on January 10, 2025, in a letter directed the Lands Commission to halt the sales, leasing, and processing of all state and public lands.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanamps.com after making a statement on the floor of the House on Monday, July 14, 2025, the MP noted that it is not fair not to be able to sell your property you have lawfully acquired because of the embargo the president has placed on such transactions.

Additionally, he noted that a lot of people are going to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) by the fact that they have stolen five hundred thousand Ghana cedis yet the Lands Commission which is the second non-tax revenue agency that contributes more money to the consolidate fund after the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is losing money by virtue of the directive.

Obiri Yeboah revealed that within these seven months, because of one letter, the nation has lost more than two billion Ghana cedis; “and you are telling me we should not talk about this embargo? Some of us, we are not into politics to amass wealth for ourselves, my land and gave it out to somebody and I send the matter to court and I have won; the Lands Commission is stopped from giving it to me because of this”.

He was however relieved that the deputy minister for lands in contributing to his statement made a profound statement in which he said second week in August, 2025, three weeks from now, the embargo would be lifted. So if we have been able to wait for almost seven months, let us wait for the three weeks, he added.

“And if by second August the ban is not lifted you would hear from me again” he emphasized.
