President John Dramani Mahama’s directive for the cancelation of fuel for appointees is part of the re-setting agenda, Cletus Dapilah Seidu, Member of Parliament for Jirapa has affirmed.

He has thus taken a swipe at those describing the President’s move as a political gimmick urging them to stop the hypocrisy since their utterances are not healthy for national development.

reason why we cannot develop Jrapa Member of Parliament Cletus Dapilah Seidu said in an interview.

He asserted that that the president’s action is only an appeal for the political class particularly his appointees, to sacrifice their comfort in building or resetting this country; and it is something that everybody should applaud him for.

“Let us not see serving in government as an opportunity to be rich; public service is a call to serve people; it is not for you to make money. The president said we spend so much money in buying fuel for appointees. And what is being asked for is not much – the little contribution of money, when put together becomes a lot of money that can enhance the education sector, roads among others; “so for me it is not a bad idea, let us applaud the president.”

He added that the ministers are not complaining; so why should people complain? “When the president launched the Mahama care, you saw  people voluntary contributing – service commanders and others; and Ghanaians like to contribute and it is not any huge money that is being taken, it is just fuel and I am telling you that all those appointed as minister,  deputies and CEOs they can buy their own fuel”.

“I see no reason why people are complaining and being hypocritical about this and saying it is a political gimmick. “How can this be? He has taken a decision, and they would comply”.

Let us make sacrifices to build our country; we should support the policy. If appointees say let me take ten percent of my salary on fuel there is nothing wrong – remember they are given accommodation, vehicle other incentive that support their work so just sacrifice for fuel.
