The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Garu Constituency in the Upper East Region has outlined his agenda in promoting quality education especially the “Girl Child Education” which has under performed in the district.

The MP, Mr Albert Akuka Alalzuuga bemoaned the abysmal educational performance of the girl child in the area and called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders including parents to help promote education of the girl child.

He could not fathom why CAMFED Ghana, an NGO that focuses on empowering and supporting girl child education in the areas could not get at least five girls in the constituency to sponsor.

The sad situation is what compelled Mr Alalzuuga to declare his commitment to working to see improvement among girls in school in the area.

To this end, the MP pledged not to rest on his oars until substantial number of children from his constituency are able to assess quality education to the highest level.

Mr Alalzuuga who was once the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Garu Tempane District was however delighted that during his tenure as the DCE, he was able to complete a number of classroom blocks which will aid his quest now as the MP to achieve is desire of increased girls enrolment in schools.

Additionally, he will institute education fund for brilliant but needy student in the constituency.

The Garu MP added that, he is also focusing on career guidance and counseling for the youth in his constituency to improve their chances of employment after education, stressing that some youth would be put on skills training and apprenticeship.
