Editor of debate chamber reporting, Parliament of Ghana, Alhaji Adam Iddrisu, has been elected President of the Commonwealth Hansard Editors Association-Africa Region (CHEA-AR) at the end of its 11th Biennial Conference which ended today in Accra, Ghana for the next two years.
In an interview he pointed out that there are Legislative Assemblies that have been dormant for some time and the new administration plans to revive and reach out to others to join their association.
As to whether the Republic of Togo is part of the association as they are part of the Commonwealth now, he noted that they are not part but there are plans to reach out to them to join the association.
He gave an example of South Africa Eastern Cape state legislature where there are plans to reach out to, Rwanda which they are making serious advocacy; and further pointed out that the Federal Republic of Nigeria has been dormant for the last ten years but are back into their fold.
Mr. Iddrisu further revealed that they have amended their constitution to include regional parliaments in their association including East Africa Legislative Assembly who were some time ago part of the association and South Africa development community parliament forum.
He said they intend also to reach out to the ECOWAS Parliament, and the Pan African Parliament as these regional Parliaments have editors of debates in the parliaments and should come on board for their capacity to be built and share ideas for a formidable association to provide the needed services.
