Works on an Information Communication Technology centre (ICT) at Gomoa Pinanko in the Gomoa West Constituency in the Central Region has been completed, Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Francis Kojo Arthur has said.
The project, he said will improve teaching and learning of ICT and also bridge the digital divide gab between students in the urban and rural communities.
The soft-spoken MP gave the revelation when he was speaking in an interview with Ghanamps.gov.gh in Parliament last Thursday. Hon. Arthur was confident that the GHs 300,000 project will significantly affect the standard of education, adding that this will help eradicate the situation whereby the “students are made to write ICT exams but have never had any tutorial or practical on how the device operates”.
He stated that the world was currently running faster on the wheels of ICT and thus the need to extend the facility to his constituency.
He said, the project may however not achieve its purpose of construction if students are not allowed to patronize the project. He said plans were far advanced to ensure that pupils from various schools visit the facility “at least once a month”.
According to him, the recently released Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results proved average in ICT since children do not have access to the facilities and thus the project will serve as a great source of relief to the area.
He said the facility has been stocked with computers and was currently in use.
