Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Sissala West, on the ticket of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) Haruna Bayirga in an interview with ghanamps.com, says“I regret serving Ghana as an MP for eight years, only to end up sick I cannot pay for my medication my children’s school fees, all my ex-gratia I use to defray loans I took from the bank to campaign”.

The PNC former legislator, who looked sick and could not walk drove to Parliament on to see the Speaker RT Honorable Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye and the leadership for assistance to buy his medication.

“Our allowance and benefits we are entitle to is not coming as former Members of Parliament, they are now thinking of working out a pension scheme for us”.

If you are no more a Member of Parliament (MP) or voted out, no one wants to employ you, we are at par with High court Judges they are enjoying all these allowance and benefits. I do not want to talk much because I am the one who has lose mouth, why can’t we also enjoy these benefits the idea to cushion us to keep body and soul going that is not what is happing, he lamented.

In the future if care is not taken, “we will have former Members of Parliament (MPs) demonstrating to draw Ghanaians attention to their difficult condition of life after leaving Parliament”.

According to the former PNC lawmaker who served in the fourth and fifth Parliament for the fourth Republic, “it is sad that, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after collaborating with them in government they have use money to take away all our seats and we do not have a single seat in the seventh Parliament”.

The Peoples National Convention (PNC) held three seats in the fourth and fifth Parliament, but reduce to a single seat in the sixth Parliament of the fourth Republic, with Dr. Clement Apaak snatching the Builsa South seat from PNC’s Alhassan Azong.

Late President, Professor John Atta Mills penciled me for a Ministerial appointment but was blocked by the hawks in NDC, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo is there he is a Muslim and a brother, “the old man told him the way they are treating me he is not happy with it not Pelpuo alone a lot of the NDC people are aware, NDC has harm my soul”.

It has been the ambition of the two major political parties, National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) to kill the PNC completely, which is not good for democracy. “PNC candidates are good they help their people but the two major parties use money to snatch our seats”, he said.
