Mrs Rachel Nana Adjoa Appoh Opoku, Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has made a passionate appeal to the President, to include her constituency in the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, to help reduce abject poverty in the area.
She said the inclusion of the constituency has become necessary, due to the latest by the Ghana Statistical Service, indicating that Central Region was the second poorest region in the country.
The MP made the appeal when she presented clothes to 500 widows in the constituency at Gomoa Ekwamkrom, near Agona Swedru.
Additionally, she put smiles on the faces of the widows during the Christmas festivities, by feting them and their children, when they thronged the Gomoa Ekwamkrom School Park.
The MP, a former Deputy Minister of Gender,Women , Children and Social Protection, said her plea to the President stemmed from the fact that Gomoa Central was included in the LEAP programme.
The MP regretted that over 2,000 women and children within the constituency were wallowing in poverty, and have become an additional burden to the District Assembly.
She was optimistic that her appeal to the President, would help alleviate the sufferings of under-privileged women and children in her constituency.
