Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, Alexander Afenyo Markin has disclosed that he has never owned a New Patriotic Party (NPP) membership card.
According him, though he has been a party member for several years and has worked in some constituencies in the Central Region and is he’s now a serving Parliamentarian, he’s yet to acquire a party membership card.
“I’ve been an NPP member for years and have even worked in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese constituency before, I’m not sure that I need an NPP card to show that indeed I am a member of this great party” he said.
However, the party’s constitution stipulates that: “Every person shall, upon being enrolled as a member, be issued with a membership card bearing the person’s name, address, constituency or overseas branch which the person has been enrolled”.
Hon. Afenyo Markin, made the revelation on Adom Fm’S Dwaso Nsem programme on Wednesday while speaking to the issue of attacks on the former Chief Marketing Officer of telecommunication giant MTN and a leading member of protest group OccupyGhana, George Andah who has publicly declared his intention to contest the parliamentary primaries of the NPP in the Awutu Senya West constituency.
Many, especially functionaries of the governing NDC, have questioned the motives of the pressure group, Occupy Ghana, with others questioning his status as an NPP member as they claim he has no membership card.
