MP for Jaman South Constituency, Hon. Yaw Afful has called for licenses of small scale miners to be revoked with immediate effect.

He said if the government wishes to really stop the influx of galamsey activities within the country, the above directive should be adhered to.

According to the legislator, Chinese miners usually use the small scale mining as a camouflage to commit heinous activities in mining centres including destruction of water bodies, farms and other properties and go scot free without being caught up by law.

“Some of these Chines miners because the law does not permit them to operate alone, join forces with indigenes to commit atrocities which endanger the lives of residents in the catchment areas in which they operate,” he affirmed.

Hon. Afful who made the call on Adom Fm’s Morning show programme dubbed ‘Dwaso Nsem’ today suggested that after revoking licenses of small scale miners, their concessions should also be seized by government.

The MP however commended the Government’s inter-ministerial task force against galamsey, for their role in helping to clamp down illegal mining activities within the country.

Hon. Yaw Afful some few weeks ago revealed his intentions of stopping any illegal mining activity within his constituency.
