The beleaguered Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong, will today be arraigned before an Accra High Court to be formally charged with treason.

The firebrand Legislator has been in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) over the last 48 hours after he was invited by the police for interrogation about his inciting comments on radio.

Hon. Kennedy Agyepong during an interview on his own radio station, Oman FM, in Accra last week Friday, stated that if Gas are beating Ashantes and not allowing Ashantes to register at Odododiodioo in Accra as part of the ongoing biometric voter registration exercise, then Ewes in Ashante region will also be beaten and denied the right to register, and that he was declaring war.

His party the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from the provocative comments by the MP saying it is against ethnic division while several civil society organizations have equally condemned the unsavory remarks.

If found guilty, Hon. Agyapong could face the death penalty.
