The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyepong is still in police grips almost twenty four (24) hours after he was invited to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters to assist the police investigate comments he made on radio which is deemed to be treasonable.

The acerbic tongue MP was invited on Monday by the CID to answer questions on comments he made on his own radio station Oman FM last Friday which the police consider has the potential of igniting ethic tension in the country.

He is also reported to have said he will organise supporters of the main opposition party to defend themselves because the law enforcement agents have failed to protect them.

It is however not clear how long the legislator who is now “cooling off’’ in BNI cells is going to spend in the custody of the security agency, as his bail attempt yesterday was denied following a supposed “order from above’’ to keep him for a much longer time.

The police had to fire tear gas and pepper spray (OC spray – capsicum spray) to disperse the incensed NPP supporters who had gathered at the Police CID Headquarters throughout Monday night demanding his release.

There are unconfirmed reports of the death of two NPP supporters while several others received various degrees of injuries in their attempt to flee the police action.
