As the Finance Minister Dr Atto Forson prepares to present the 2026 Budget and Economic Policy of the John Dramani Mahama Administration, probably on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the plenary, Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Professor Adam Hamza, the ranking on the Committee of Environment Science and Technology, is advocating for a dedicated fund in the 2026 budget to address issue of climate change.
Speaking in an interview he stated that climate change causes a lot of loss and harm to nations which is estimated at the cost of millions of dollars and if basic policies are put in place, the situation can be mitigated, hence the need to get a budget line to support the fight against climate change.
Professor Hamza, a member of the climate caucus in Ghana’s Parliament further indicated that deliberate effort should be made to get Members of Parliament and other key stakeholders on board as MPs are strategically placed to work with their constituents to roll out climate change events in their constituencies.
“Ghana, we have shown how we want to integrate the climate change policy in our programmes, and that should include the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDAs). To do this effectively we should question why we have limited budge for climate change”.
And we should understand the issues of climate change in order to advocate for its cause, he added.
