The Minister for lands and natural resources Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah has revealed that his ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Transport and agencies like the Ghana Revenue Authority, customs division, Ports and Harbors Authority, Minerals Commission and Vehicle licensing Authority in ensuring that there is a robust permit issuance and tracking system for imported earth-moving and mining equipment particularly excavators in line with the directives of the president John Dramani Mahama.

According to him the president has been clear and consistent in his commitment to address scourge of illegal mining and its devastating impact on Ghana’s environment and communities.

And one critical control measure is the regulation of importation, clearance, registration and monitoring of all earth moving equipment, particularly excavators.

This came to light when the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe Jerry Ahmed Shaib wanted to know what the lands minister was doing to ensure effective permit-issuance system and tracking mechanism for importing excavators to operationalize the directive of the president.

Mr. Kofi Buah further told the House that the mentioned plans are woven around the Minerals and Mining (mineral operations tracking of earth moving and mining equipment regulations 2020 (LI2404) (LI 2404) which prescribes the mandatory registration of all earth-moving and mining equipment that is to be used in mineral operations.

LI 2404 ensures that machinery and equipment are tracked in real time and used only in mining areas for which they have been registered.
