The Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has announced changes to parliamentary sitting times to allow Members of Parliament to travel to their constituencies ahead of the Eid ul-Adha celebrations.
Presenting the Business Statement on the floor of the House, Ayariga explained that the revised schedule was proposed by the Business Committee to ensure MPs can return to Accra in time to fully participate in parliamentary proceedings. He extended safe travel wishes to all members.
Under the new schedule, sittings will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and at 2:00 p.m. on both Thursday, May 28, and Friday, May 29, 2026.
Reacting to the Business Statement, the MP for Kwadaso, Hon. Kingsley Nyarko, proposed that Friday’s sitting be moved from 2:00 p.m. to midday. He argued that an earlier start would make travel more convenient for members, particularly those who rely on air transport to reach their constituencies.
The adjusted arrangements are expected to help MPs balance parliamentary duties with constituency engagements during the festive period.
