Member of Parliament (MP) for Bimbilla Dominic Nitiwul says it is wrong for anyone to think the joint force tackling illegal mining is trigger pull happy, rather the military is properly trained and the task force is doing a good job.

“It is regrettable some of the unfortunate situation that occurred.We have moved on, I am not sure you will see some of these things again”

According to the Defence Minister the joint military force combating illegal mining, what they do is to control expectation on the ground and they are doing exactly that. “We are happy about what they are doing on the ground”.

“We just hope the people of Ghana do not disobey the President and defile his orders by going to engage in the illegal mining , it is time for us to control our mining activities, again nobody is saying you should not mine”, he said.

He entreated that it is very important to take a critical look at discipline in our society, and those engaged in this galamsey are perpetuating indiscipline. He noted that even the president has put his presidency on the line to fight this not forgetting complains from the neighbouring countries that we are polluting their waters.

“We have to take some drastic measures and ensure that mining is done and done properly in this Country”.

He said as the Minister of Mines and Natural Resources is putting in an integrated approach to ensure that people engage in mining do it and do it properly, the best we can do is to support him.

“We have 400 forces on the ground that is a decision we have taken and they are doing a great job, the evidence is on the ground for everyone to see”.
