Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin has given assurance to the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin that the House would accord respect to his two deputies in the wake of disturbance during Tuesday’s sitting.

During that sitting, the first deputy speaker had course to order that the Ranking member on the Health Committee be dragged out of the chamber when in seconding adjournment used the opportunity to read a statement on the striking nurse on the floor.

According to the Minority Leader he thanked the Speaker for guiding them to resolve the issue at the Wednesday, June 11, 2025 conclave meeting and assured that they would have their cooperation to ensure there is order to guide proceedings and to help uphold the integrity of the House.

“Moving to solve problems of this House is a continuous process and we would assist the chair now that you are overwhelmed with some other administrative work and other commitments, your two deputies would be with us most of the time.

In addition, we would extend that courtesy to them, they are the first among their equals despite being members of this House their position guaranteed by the constitution, we agree that we need to accord them the needed respect.

And I retreat your call on us to have patience and I would add tolerance and we are here as a family”.

“For me we do not come here to fight, we come here to build friendship and relationship; it’s that friendship and relationship that earns you Rt. Hon Speaker your enviable position, we may not be happy because you assume the chair in the 8th Parliament but because of the relationship that got some people to believe that he is our friend let us entrust him with the power of speakership. “I would encourage colleagues that no matter what, the speaker has called on us to have patience, I am adding tolerance”.

He said there will always be disagreements but that is the beauty of politics, and urged his colleagues to be measured in the language they use.
