The Minority on the Appointment Committee has given indications that come Monday, November 10, 2025; they will participate in the vetting of the Chief Justice nominee Justice Baffoe Bonnie.
The Minority led by the Minority leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin failed in their attempt to put the vetting on hold following the ruling of the Speaker, RT Hon. Alban Bagbin that no law stops Parliament from performing its duties because of a suit, adding that the Judiciary, also an arm of government cannot halt the works of parliament because that will mean interference.
“There is no constitutional or standing order basis for Parliament to halt the process simply because there are pending cases in court.”
“Should I accept that argument, it would mean that any litigant could hold Parliament hostage by filing a case and freezing the work of Parliament and its committees. The motion is inadmissible and has been returned to the sponsor, the Minority Leader, Honourable Alexander Afenyo-Markin.”
Ghanamps.com interaction with some leadership of the Minority on the Committee points to the fact that they will participate, but will be very critical and tough in their work.
The vetting exercise is scheduled to commence at 11:00 am.
