The Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament has expressed dismay about government’s lack of commitment to the constitution of Boards for the smooth and effective running of statutory bodies.

The caucus accused the Minister of Finance particularly of flouting corporate and banking rules for political interests.
It has therefore called on the President to as a matter of urgency appoints Board of Directors for all government entities to ensure best corporate governance practices in the country.

Several Public institutions including tertiary institutions, Commercial Banks are currently without Board of Directors which are vested with the authority to ensure effective management.

Addressing a press conference in Parliament House, Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu raised concerns about the lack of Boards impeding the proper functioning of state agencies.

The Minority also expressed fears that government’s singular decision to usurp functions that Boards are supposed to be performing would have dire consequences for the nation.

The Tamale South Member of Parliament revealed the Finance Minister in the absence of a Board for the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB) in a letter approved aloan to MacDan Shipping Company Limited.

“At a time the country, shareholders, customers and taxpayers of commercial banks, continue to wait for more information on Ghana Commercial Bank’s takeover of two banks, the Minority has in its possession a letter dated 9th June, 2017 with Reference No. PID/PEU/01/2017 and signed by Hon.
