Alhaji Amadu B. Sologho, Member of Parliament for Abokobi-Madina, has appealed to parents to take active interest in the education of their wards to enable them to achieve academic excellence and become useful citizens.
He said education played a very important role in the socio-economic development of the nation hence parents must endeavour to help their children to achieve their aim.
Alhaji Sologho said this when he donated 3,600 pieces of a text book; “The Cock Crow,” valued at GH¢ 40,000.00, to the La-Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Education at Madina in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday.
The ”The Cock Crow” is an English Course Book which had been recommended by the Ghana Education Service to be used in all junior high schools.
The books would be distributed to form one students of both public and private junior high schools in the constituency.
Alhaji Sologho urged the pupils to take their education seriously and tasked them to desist from indulging in acts which would be inimical to their studies.
He said he had instituted “Best Teacher Awards” for primary, junior high, senior high and technical schools in the constituency as a way of motivating the teachers to give of their best to improve the quality of education in the constituency.
Alhaji Sologho urged teachers to take their work seriously and desist from absenteeism which retards progress.
Mrs Elizabeth Oduro Mensah, Municipal Director of Education, who received the books, thanked Alhaji Sologho for his kind gesture and expressed the hope that the children would put the books to good use.
