Mr Benjamin Kpodo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central Constituency on Monday procured 2,339 pens for distribution to Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the Municipal area.

The gesture is to motivate candidates in public and private schools to excel at the examinations scheduled to start next week, June 17, this year.Mr Kpodo told the GNA, “I am not happy about previous results. They are not inspiring so this is a little motivation for the candidates to know that we are behind them and interested in their education.”

The Municipal area recorded 53 per cent and 51 per cent passes in the 2011 and 2012 BECEs respectively.

Mr Kpodo said his ultimate plan was to help improve academic performance in the Region and that plans were far advanced to motivate both teachers and students to improve standards in education.

He said he expected the 2013 year group to record a pass mark of 70 per cent and urged the candidates to go all out.

Mr Kpodo earlier sent the Municipal Education Directorate to visit the schools to ascertain the level of preparedness of the candidates for the examinations.

Mr Kpodo, a professional Accountant, also instituted a Best Performing Accounting Student’s award to motivate accounting students in Senior High Schools in the Constituency to perform better.

Mrs Dora Humado, Ho Municipal Director of Education, who led a team to visit the schools, told the candidates that, the impending examination was the “most crucial exams of their lives” because it would determine how they would progress academically.
