The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has formally raised a matter of privilege against the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, over allegations of irregularities in the recruitment of personnel into the Ghana Police Service, Fire Service, and Immigration Service.

According to Mr. Mubarak, the issue stems from claims first made by the Minority Leader on Thursday, February 27, 2026. The Minister stated that he addressed the allegations that same day, correcting what he termed as inaccuracies, but the Minority Leader did not acknowledge the correction.

He explained that the matter was amplified when Mr. Afenyo-Markin repeated the allegations the following day during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, February 28, while a global audience was watching.

“And I indicated to him that if he has any issue, he should write to me, and I would provide him with the necessary information. However, he chose to take advantage of SONA when the whole world was listening,” the Minister said.

Citing the Minority Leader’s declaration in Parliament that “people will go to prison, there is a scandal looming,” Mr. Mubarak invoked Standing Orders 31 E and F. He is calling for Mr. Afenyo-Markin to be given the opportunity to appear before the Committee of Privileges to substantiate his claims.

“He should be given the opportunity to go before the Privileges Committee to prove that allegation,” the Minister stated.
