The Member of Parliament for Tamale North and Minister for Environment, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed is confirmed dead alongside seven others in Wednesday’s helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.
The Chief of staff, Julius Debrah who announced the incidence and the individuals involved at a press briefing at the presidency described the incident as a national tragedy.
The victims including five government officials and three crew members on an Air Force helicopter were from Accra en route to Obuasi for a Community Mining programme when the incident occurred.
The eight include:
1. Dr Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
2. Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment
3. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
4. Dr Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman, NDC
5. Mr Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary candidate
6. Squadron leader Peter
7. Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
8. Sergeant Ernest Addo
Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff has directed all flags to fly at half-mast.
