Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament Rt. Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has inaugurated the national integrity awards scheme Committee in Parliament.
According to him this bold declaration is to celebrate those who stand for what is true and right in the national interest and would serve as a reminder that corruption, impunity and unethical behaviour should not be tolerated or normalised in any form in this country.
The Speaker further added that, the scheme is designed to do just two things; the first is to honour men, women and the youth whose action strengthens public trust and uphold the rule of law and reinforce the importance of ethical conduct.
In addition as the committee is honouring those who exhibit integrity also to name and shame those whose conduct has been considered not in the best interest of the country and dishonest. He said for true integrity to flourish in society, there should be a celebration of what is right and denounce what is wrong with equal vigour; the reason why on March 29, 2025, he made a statement on the floor of the House that a national integrity award is being established and parliament as a watch dog and law making House that protects the public purse is the best place to undertake such a thing and the scheme would contribute a lot to the promotion of integrity in the Country.
The value that is so deficient in the country in recent times, it would promote and institutionalized the recognition of individuals and institutions who demonstrate adherence to ethical principles and honesty in their areas of endeavour and those leading by example their personal life. This is also meant to encourage Ghanaians to strive for better integrity governance, he added
