The Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Joycelyn Quashie has called on law enforcement agencies to put measures in place that will end all forms of child marriages and sexual exploitation of children below the age of consent.

The Member was speaking at the Up Girl literary project, a read and conversation programme, organized by the Duo Concept Foundation, as part of this year’s Ghana association of Writers and book Festival, (GAWBOFEST).

The book of focus is “Talata, the Child Bride, published by Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited.

It focuses on child marriage in Ghana with emphasis on the girl child.

The MP earlier joined the Minister for Employment and Labour and Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Dr Adbul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, to hold conversations with young people from various second cycle institutions in Accra on the advantages of reading and the skills needed for effective writing.

The North Dayi MP also donated math sets to the participating students who took active part in the conversation.

Hon Joycelyn Quashie is a child rights activist who has been working assiduously in her constituency, to empower young vulnerable children through the provision of essential learning tools and other social interventions.

The MP was joined by the Deputy Director of the Parliamentary Broadcasting Department, and together, they read to the students and held conversations on how to mitigate, if not totally eradicate early child marriages from the Ghanaian society.

The Duo Concept Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with a focus on empowering young people through literary projects and engagements.

The Foundation also undertakes philanthropic activities aimed at bridging the social gaps between and among today’s youth.

Today’s event is part of a two day collaboration with GAWBOFEST and is intended to bring together, over one thousand students in second cycle institutions.
