The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Kwadaso Constituency of the Ashanti Region risk losing the seat to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the constituents appear divided between voting for the incumbent NPP candidate Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and the former MP Hilda Addo who has decided to go independent.

Madam Hilda Addo decision follows her second unsuccessful attempt at unseating Dr Akoto who is poised to return to Parliament.

In 2008 she lost to Dr Akoto when she polled 30 votes out of the 72 total ballots cast while the winner had 42 votes, while in the 2008 primaries she again lost to Dr. Akoto with 57 votes while he polled 276 votes.

The NPP has made it clear to its members who have decided to run as independent candidates in contravention of the party’s laws that they risk being sacked from the party.

In spite of the above, Madam Hilda Addo has resolved to contest damning the consequences of her action which will to a large extent negatively affect the fortunes of the NPP in the constituency.

Meanwhile the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has established a Reconciliation Committee to look into issues of election disputes and the possibility of the losing candidates going independent.

The Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea has said the committee within a month will take measures and impress upon persons who have decided to go independent to rescind their decisions as it would not inure to the benefit of the party.
