The first deputy Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye, has urged President John Evans Atta Mills to teach president Barack Obama of the United States, the terrible effects of approving same-sex marriages.

He said President Mills must tell Mr. Obama when they meet at the upcoming G8 summit in a forthright manner that he has made a terrible error by sanctioning same-sex marriages.

President Obama in an interview with ABC News, said he thinks same-sex couples should be able to wed, a statement which has generated mixed reaction among Americans and other people across the world.

President John Evans Atta Mills early this year in reacting to comments by the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, and the UN Secretary, General Ban Ki-Moon, on the need for African nations to relax laws on gay rights  publicly stated that the Ghanaian culture and norms frown on homosexuality and that his administration would not go against the desires of Ghanaians.

However Hon. Mike Ocquaye in an interview on Radio XYZ in Accra Thursday stated that President Mills must explicitly state his position clear to President Obama and condemn his position on gay marriage irrespective of the healthy relationship that exist between Ghana and USA.

He said he wished President Mills could be bold enough to tell President Obama clearly that Ghanaians have rejected same sex relationship and that he Obama must equally do same since it’s an abominable act.

Prof. Mike Ocquaye was however unsure whether President Mills could muster the guts to speak to Obama on the issue as he (Mills) failed to speak his mind at the AU meeting where Ban Ki Moon made those unfortunate statements.
