The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has donated GH¢330,000 to Oda Senior High School (ODASCO) to support its Steam Cooking Project.
The project is an initiative of the 1991 Year Group (Nananom), which is constructing a decarbonised steam cooking kitchen to replace traditional firewood methods with modern, energy-efficient steam technology.

Estimated at GH¢1,100,000, the MP’s donation represents 30% of the project cost. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) support accounts for the remaining 70%.
The project aims to, among other things:
· Eliminate reliance on firewood to curb deforestation and tree felling.
· Reduce indoor air pollution and protect kitchen staff from harmful smoke.
· Improve kitchen efficiency, safety and hygiene while reducing meal preparation time.
Speaking at the donation, Mr Akwasi Acquah commended the group for the initiative, saying the idea was laudable and he could not stand by without supporting it.

He said it was prudent to support an initiative aimed at reducing deforestation, particularly tree felling for firewood, especially as the country regularly plants more trees. The other aspect, he noted, was reducing the rate at which existing trees are cut down.
Moreover, he said, the project would reduce smoke emissions that harm both the environment and the health of kitchen staff.
