In the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19 on the University of Ghana campus and the Health Minister Kwabena Minta Akando briefing the House and confirming the presence of the virus, Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Professor Kingsley Nyarko has pointed out the previous NPP has been vindicated.
According to him the previous administration made a strong point that COVID-19 is not gone and taxes on it should be maintained.
But for political convenience the current John Dramani government in opposition called for the removal of the taxes.
“Mr. Minister, now are you in a position to keep the covid tax or remove it? The NPP was saying that we needed that support to build our health infrastructure to ensure that we build buffers and the capacity of our health institutions so that we would be able to deal with this disease and other ones that would emerge in the future, but you kicked against it”, he stated.
He said his concern is that Ghanaians are waiting on you to decide on how you are going to deal with this matter, “are you going to remove it or you are going to maintain it? Please keep to your promise as Ghanaians did you the favour by voting for you because of that promise; and what interventions are the health authorities putting in place to deal with COVID-19 at the basic to the university levels, he queried.
