Chairperson of the Public Account Committee (PAC) Abena Osei Asare has commended the way and manner both the Majority and Minority members of the Committee have worked in a bipartisan manner as they dealt with the Auditor General’s report of December 31, 2024.

He thanked the Ranking member of the Committee, Samuel Atta Mills for his support, adding that the aim of the Committee is to make sure people account for every cedi that had been put in their custody to be utilized for the good of the nation is achieved.

“As I said, some public officers came here, discharging their mandates as expected of them, and we commended some. Others also did not live up to expectations as public office holders”.

She further pointed out that in all this; it is for the good of the country that when we are given positions or opportunities to serve, we discharge our mandates as expected of us.

“One other thing that we put out there that we’re going to do moving forward is to make sure that we go into a closed session, to prepare our reports”. And as part of the reports, we are going to speak with Mr. Speaker and the other committee members and propose that approval of an entity’s budget should be based on you addressing the recommendations of the committee”.

When we do this, I believe we will help everybody, or everyone who has been cited, or every public institution, which needs approval from parliament before they can spend their budget, they will sit up and address these budget infractions. And so, I know the minister for government communications is going to cabinet. That is why I related it to him that he should inform his colleague ministers that this is what we intend to do. We must do things differently and to make sure we all encourage people to do the right thing, she stated.

The Chairperson noted that their goal is to ensure that public funds are effectively and efficiently utilized; hence they will present the report to the floor of parliament and share with them some of these suggestions and strategies that they hope to implement.
