Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Abena Osei Asare has revealed that going forward officials who validate individuals for unearned salaries would be sanctioned.
There were quite a number of infractions involving unearned salaries during the public hearing of the 2024 Auditor General’s report and the chairperson thought all those involved in the process would have to be sanctioned to curtail the development.
“Because I keep saying that the person did not pay himself, the person was validated before payment was affected. And so we’re going to add that to our recommendations that it is not just the receiver of the unearned salary, but the person who made that process possible also has to be sanctioned”.
So that next time when you are checking and you are validating anybody, you take the necessary checks; yes, you take precaution to make sure you’re doing the right thing, she emphasized.
The chairperson who addressed the media just after the public hearing disclosed that already public servants who received such unearned salaries have been sanctioned to pay back the money or referred to the Attorney General.
