Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has indicated that Ghana Police Service is the right institution to handle the defilement of a four year old girl and not the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection as being projected.

“This is purely a criminal matter and let no one be under any contrivance it is preposterous to think this matter should be handle by the gender Ministry”.

His comment comes in the wake of women in the media, a civil society presenting a petition to Speaker Professor Oquaye in Parliament which was receive on his behalf by the Majority leader and made this remarks in an interview.

Speaking in an interview, the Majority Leader said “I am happy you have indicated to us that you have gone to the appropriate place, that is  the police, they should be  acting and they should be urge to act in this unfortunate matter,  I am told when the incident happened locally there has not been a complaint lodged”.

At cabinet the President was outraged and indicated to the Minister responsible to the interior, whatever must be done must be done to deal with the situation, he said.

“As the representative of the people we should also show concern that is why, I am happy you have come to us with this petition on I receive this petition on behalf of the Speaker. Leadership of Parliament will determine what Parliament can do to help this situation”.

According to the leader of government business the incident has nothing to do with ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), our institutions should be equipped to do what is required of them.

And urged the women in media not to allow the sending of the petition to be a “nine day wonder” and should do more by keeping institutions on its toes.
