The President-elect, John Dramani Mahama has endorsed the Rt.Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin as the Speaker of the ninth parliament.
Mr. Mahama in a release signed by his aid Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Sunday, January 5, 2025 mandated the nomination of the Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
The decision according to the release was reached in consultation with the National Executive and the Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
It said the Rt. Hon. Bagbin has distinguished himself in the service of parliament, rising from Member of Parliament for Nadowli to Minority and Majority leader respectively, and subsequently as Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
Thus, he brings a wealth of experience to the position, which will prove vital in steering the affairs of the Parliament at this critical period in Ghana’s democratic and legislative development
The President-elect expressed optimism that under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Bagbin, Ghana’s parliament will be further strengthened to deliver effectively on its oversight responsibilities.
