Ghana’s 2024 General Election results have marked a dramatic shift in the political landscape, with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing a majority in Parliament while increasing its vote share significantly.

According to figures released by EC, the NDC improved its performance from the 2020 election, increasing its total votes from 6,213,182 (47.36%) to 6,328,397 (56.55%) a rise of 115,215 votes. This translated into a substantial gain in parliamentary seats, growing from 137 in 2020 to 187 in 2024.

In contrast, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) suffered a sharp decline, both in votes and seats. The party’s votes dropped from 6,730,587 (51.30%) in 2020 to 4,657,304 (41.61%) in 2024  a staggering loss of over 2 million votes, representing a 30.81% decrease. The NPP also saw its parliamentary seats fall from 137 in 2020 to just 88 in 2024.

The results indicate a significant shift in voter sentiment and could signal a change in Ghana’s political direction as the NDC takes control of the legislature.
