The Member of Parliament for Sissala East constituency in the Upper West region, Sulemana Alijata Gbentie has underscored the need for serious implementation of school performance management tools in order to boost quality education across-board.

She indicated that performance tools like the School Performance Appraisal Management (SPAM) should be strengthened and entrenched in the system to ostensibly enhance the standard of education in the country.

Highlighting this in an interview with ghanamps.gov.gh, the MP asserted that SPAM meetings were for instance improved ways of monitoring and checking the edge in performance of school children and teachers.

She added that such meetings give the opportunity for stakeholders to have interface with each other to deliberate on educational matters and the way forward in achieving quality education.

Also on the District Education Oversight Committee (DEOC) established to help improve educational standard of children, she intimated that this was not functioning properly as it is required, adding that in some instances not even a single meeting would be convened under DEOC in a year.

Madam Sulemana Gbentie was therefore worried that all these forms of monitoring and evaluation tools in education were failing, thus urged government through the Ministry of Education and the MMDA’s to activate these elements in our quest for achieving quality education.
