Speaker of Parliament Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye has cautioned Members of Parliament to be punctual to attend to business on the floor of Parliament, since they cannot get request that Ministers come to the floor to answer question and they will not be present.
He gave this caution to both MPs on the majority side of the House and the Minority side in the light of MPs not being present in the House when they pose a question and other MPs had to answer on their behalf.
Mr. Yaw Frimpong Addo MP for Manso Adubia, failed to show up on Friday November 2, 2017 to pose an urgent question to the Interior Minister on the floor of the House which the Speaker did not take kindly to.
“If you urgently pull a Minister to the House, you must urgently be present to ask your urgent question. I do not mind which side the question comes from, urgent questions is different process and you need the person around to ask that question”.
Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu pointed out that, when the urgent question was programmed, to question the Interior Minister unfortunately he was absent and requested that it be re-programmed. Mr. Mensah-Bonsu told the Speaker when he invited him for his comments.
He further pointed out that, Manso Adubia legislator had an appointment in the constituency and requested that his question be asked on his behalf.
Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye allowed the question to be asked on behalf of the Manso Adubia MP saying it is for a good reason, but cautioned MPs to make it a point to be in the House to ask their question.
