Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has expressed shock that Ghanaian lawmakers have shunned being members of the Parliamentary Association of Cambodia, Serbia and Togo at the inauguration of the management Committee.

According to him Cambodia is a place Ghanaian MPs should be interested in having Parliamentary Association with, in the wake of Ghana discovering lithium as Cambodia has same.

He further stated that Serbia is a nice place to be, adding that in the eighth parliament they offered Ghanaian students a lot of scholarships.

Again Ghana’s neighbour the Republic of Togo also did not attract any MP from the two hundred and seventy-five members, “not even my brothers and sisters from the Volta Region”, he lamented.

But countries like Canada attracted over ninety (90) MPs and he admonished that if it is not changed MPs would end up not traveling to those Countries because no Country can sponsor ninety MPs to visit.

The Speaker was also not pleased that MPs are not enthused about joining the Pakistan and Lebanon friendship both of which are nice places.

“There is an urgent need for capacity building, the Lebanon Association is one of the most vibrant associations, they were in Ghana before independence and they led the development of this country, “I love to go to Lebanon and it is a place to go to bring peace to the world; that is why there is this treat”.

On his part, Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga suggests choosing the Associations for the MPs, stating that leaving the MPs to choose on their own is what is causing the problem.
