Minister for Interior Ambrose Dery has told Parliament there are steps underway to implement Arms Trade Treaty as his Ministry is working on a cabinet memo on the matter for submission to cabinet for approval.

Member of Parliament for Builsa North James Agalga wanted to know plans to implement the Arm Trade Treaty Ghana acceded to and ratified by Parliament in 2015.

According to the Minister the implementation requires Ghana to put in place certain measures, designation of a Competent National Authority, a National Focal Point and strategies to prevent and address the diversion of conventional arms to unauthorized end-users among others.

He noted that, although there are some laws on arms ammunitions, we need to review our legislation to the United Nations standard.
