As to whether the one hundred and sixty-six constituencies targeted to benefit from 10kilometers of roads every year for the next three years as announced by the Finance Minister Dr Ato Forson in the mid-year budget are only targeted at rural areas, Mr Isaac Adjei Mensah said it cuts across.
The Chairman of the Committee for Roads and Transportation explained in an interview with Ghanamps.com that the targeted beneficiaries include metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies, as the criteria as stated by the finance minister is about constituencies in dire need of road infrastructure; be it urban roads or feeder roads.
“This shows that the big push and road maintenance is a big thing to help tackle Ghana’s road situation head on”
He said the declaration of year of roads by the previous administration did not see any change, “what do we have to show for year of roads?” He queried
He noted that most of the projects were abandoned because contractors were not paid, adding that currently about twenty-one billion Ghana cedis is in debt and the government has ensured that four billion of that is paid.
