The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the Madina Constituency, Abu-Bakar Saddique Boniface has said, when lawmakers in Ghana’s Legislature are under pressure, they turn to say they are lawmakers and not development agents.
According to him, a lawmaker’s secondary duty after law crafting is being a development agent as the number one thing that takes him into parliament is to go and help in development, and help create good polices.
He/she is supposed to serve his or her country as well in moving it forward. “My sisters, the head porters have not moved down to Accra from the North as tourist and did not come to look at the sea, they have come to Accra in search of something to take back home”, he said.
Mr. Boniface was speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 to show case what he has achieved as lawmaker in his constituency in terms of developments.
When Ghanamps.com asked why there was no line in his speech telling his constituents about laws he has helped in crafting, he said, “I am an MP and should be a leading member in search for development to the constituency, this duty should not be left for the Assemblies alone they can not do it alone, as they rely on the Ministry for Local Government and Rural Development”.
He further explained that, as an MP, he has his colleague Ministers in parliament, he can lobby them to bring development to his constituency, and added that he has had the opportunity to bring his colleague Ministers to his constituency to appreciate some of the challenges he faces in terms of development.
