The Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia (Dr.) yesterday, joined children of the Akropong School of the Blind to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

The Vice President, who donated various items to the school including a fat cow, said it was no fault of the children to have found themselves visually impaired and therefore society should not neglect them but rather they should be shown care for and attention.

Dr. Bawumia pledged support to the school and promised government’s readiness to assist them with improved educational infrastructure and other facilities to boost their academic performance.

On her part, Headmistress of the school, Madam Mahale Narh thanked his H.E. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia and his entourage for the kind gestures showed them and urged other philanthropists to emulate the vice president’s move.

She took the opportunity to appeal to the vice president to consider the posting of teachers since the school was currently under staff. She also called for assistance from government to help renovate the school structure to prevent it from completely collapsing.
