Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has opposed any attempt at trying to discuss the Chief Justice’s removal process pointing out that the vetting of the Supreme Court nominees at the Appointment Committee is not the appropriate forum to discuss that.
The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin raised the matter on the petition in removing the Chief Justice Getrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo in his open remarks at the vetting of the nominees.
According to the Majority Leader, it is inappropriate, and there is nothing procedurally questionable in terms of the processes that Justice Torkornoo is being taken through.
Mr. Ayariga further pointed out in his open remarks that, the vetting process should not be used to do politics – “we would be vetting them according to the standards set by our constitution; hope this does not become another partisan banter exercise”, he stated.
Again, the constitution is clear in terms of the process and that process has been followed diligently and efforts to question that in the Supreme Court have not been successful. “I find it inappropriate that before a committee of this nature, the Minority leader would be questioning the process”, he affirmed.
