As Parliament’s Appointment Committee prepares to vet a Supreme Court nominee and two ministerial nominees on Thursday, August 26, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr. Kabiru Tiah, has called for a rigorous and thorough scrutiny of the candidates.
The nominees include Mahama Ayariga, who is designated for the Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs portfolio, alongside a nominee for Environment and Technology. However, Dr. Tiah has raised concerns over petitions filed against Mr. Ayariga, which allege his active involvement in the Bawku chieftaincy disputes.
“If he is made responsible for chieftaincy affairs, how can he ensure fairness in the process? This is a question he must address forthrightly,” Dr. Tiah said in an interview. “The accusations do not inspire confidence, and the committee must get to the bottom of this matter. I hope he provides a satisfactory explanation for his constituents back home.”
Turning his attention to Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, the Walewale MP expressed optimism that she would distinguish herself during the vetting, proving herself worthy of the plenary’s final approval.
