Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament Rt. Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has commended the partnership between the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana and the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) in the reduction of methane emission and ensuring climate resilience.

According to him Ghana would ensure that the objective of the initiative is fully realised and thanked IPU for the confidence and trust Ghana when he launched a strategic partnership on the theme.

“Enhancing Parliamentary action on climate change, strengthening the role of Parliament in reducing methane emission”.

“It is my firm belief that through collective effort, the Parliament of Ghana will emerge as a true champion of methane reduction and climate resilience. We can only do that when we continue to collaborate and engage our partners who are here. They have more data than us in Parliament here”.

And further added that the media relations outfit of Parliament, Public engagement, broadcasting and citizens bureau need to be strengthened; adding that public engagement, media relations, broadcasting are key in maintaining that link and constant conversation on this subject matter.

Again, civil society organisations and the public form an arm of governance to be able to deliver hence the need to start looking for ways and means of supporting them to be able to do their work for us.

But as members of Parliament, there is no time for you to do this research work, which is obvious. In that direction, civil society needs to be trained in such a way that they can take up that task, he said.
