The Minority side on the Appointments Committee has clarified that they do not have anything personally against the Chief Justice nominee, Paul Baffoe- Bonine but there are processes in the Community court that the former CJ has initiated and same in the Ghanaian court which has not been exhausted.

And based on principle, the Minority will vote en bloc against the nominee. They are therefore abstaining from the process but pointed out that they are not boycotting the process.

in a media briefing by The raking on the Judicial Committee Anyimadu-Antwi briefing the media after the caucus staged a walkout said, “we sit in and accommodate this give and take, especially when they have made up their minds. Whatever we say, they are going to object to that and that will not let sanity prevail, so we thought that we should give peace a process”, he added.

As to whether the Minority did not have it as their plan to boycott the process and things have just fallen in place, he noted that he wore his Christmas dress to come and sit and ask his questions at the vetting, but the way things have gone, they think that they want to move into the gutters. If you are not careful you would say things you are not supposed to say. “You saw the interjection that I made, if you are not careful, you might even speak against anybody like the majority leader.”

“I have my questions, and that is why you can see my file in my hands; everybody has questions to ask. He is going to be the chief justice of the whole nation whether you are the majority NDC or the minority NPP. So, it is for all of us to make sure that we get the best for the country, and therefore we plan to partake in the process. But if they are not allowing us, we don’t see how we are going to be part of the process.”

He also emphasized that the last time they had vetting, things escalated over some disagreements and people nearly engaged in a fight, and they wanted to avoid similar spectacle hence the walkout.
