The persistent appeal by the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, for the improvement of the deteriorating Mallam Junction–McCarthy Hill road has finally yielded results, with construction work now actively underway on the stretch.

The road, a vital link on the Kasoa-Accra corridor, had become virtually unmotorable, causing severe traffic congestion daily and inflicting hardship on commuters, motorists, and residents. Frustrated by the worsening condition, Hon. Shaib formally petitioned the Ministry of Roads and Highways, urging immediate intervention to rehabilitate the road and ease the burden on his constituents.

That petition has now borne fruit. The Ministry has responded positively, deploying contractors to the site to begin remedial works. The development is being hailed as a direct outcome of the MP’s advocacy and a testament to responsive governance.

“This is a victory for the people of Weija-Gbawe,” Hon. Shaib said in an interview. “For months, I listened to the complaints of residents and commuters who were spending hours in traffic due to the poor state of this road. I took their concerns to the Ministry, and I am glad our appeal has been heard. Work has started, and we will ensure it is completed to standard and on schedule.”

Residents and motorists have welcomed the turn of events, expressing relief that the MP’s efforts have translated into tangible action. Many recounted the daily ordeal of navigating the damaged road, which had become a nightmare for drivers and a source of economic loss for businesses.

“We are grateful to Hon. Shaib for not giving up on us,” said Mr. Kofi Ansah, a commercial driver who plies the route. “The traffic was terrible, and our vehicles were suffering. Now that work has begun, we are hopeful that things will improve soon.”

The contractors have commenced preliminary works, with expectations that the project will significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety once completed. The community has pledged to cooperate fully with the construction team to ensure timely completion.

The successful intervention stands as a clear example of how effective parliamentary representation and direct engagement with relevant ministries can deliver results for ordinary citizens. For the people of Weija-Gbawe and all who use the Mallam Junction–McCarthy Hill road, the MP’s appeal has indeed yielded the much-needed relief they had long awaited.
