Parliament on Friday 10th of November 2017, passed the Zongo Development Bill 2017.
The Bill seeks to provide financial resources to develop and transform the social development of the Zongo communities.
The Bill in addition will provide for the management of the fund and other related matters, when the President Nana Akufo-Addo assent to it for it to become law.
On Thursday 9th of November 2017, the House worked late into the night to ensure that the Bill was worked on and passed before the budget is presented to the House on Wednesday the 15 of November 2017.
The Bill when introduced to the House faced some challenges as the initial intention was for the Bill to be taken under a certificate of urgency which was rejected and has to go through the normal process after it was referred to finance committee to assess if it warrant a certificate of urgency.
In an early interview before the passage of the Bill, Minister of Inner City and Zongo Development Boniface Abubakar Saddique gave assurance that despite the challenges the Bill faced it will go through before the 2018 budget is presented to the House.
