Three lawmakers from Côte d’Ivoire have officially bid farewell to their colleagues at the ECOWAS Community Parliament during the ongoing 2026 First Ordinary Session in Abuja on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
The outgoing MPs – Sako Mamadou, Aka Herve, and Ake Yapo Germain – took to the podium together, where Mr. Sako delivered an emotional valedictory speech on their behalf.
He reflected on their shared journey, noting that while debates were often demanding, they were always guided by a common will to strengthen democracy, peace, and development across the West African sub-region.
“We are leaving with the feeling that we have modestly contributed,” Sako said, acknowledging that the trio had done their part despite the many challenges still facing the region.
“But we are convinced that, thanks to your commitment and the determination of the newly sworn-in MPs, the work will continue with rigor and passion.”
Gratitude and best wishes
Addressing their former colleagues directly, Sako added:
“To our colleagues, we express our profound gratitude for the quality of the human relationships, the spirit of fraternity, and the constructive collaboration that have marked our shared journey. These bonds, woven over time, will remain precious and lasting for us.”
The Ivorian lawmakers also extended their best wishes to the incoming MPs who will now carry Côte d’Ivoire’s voice in the Parliament.
“We have faith in their ability to continue the work undertaken and to make a significant contribution to the ideals of ECOWAS,” Sako concluded.
