The Member of Parliament of Asuogyaman Hon. Kofi Osei Ameyaw has expressed his worst fears that nearly 800 students in Senior High Schools in the Asuogyaman District could be prevented from sitting for this year’s West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
He said the situation is very worrying as the students aside not being allowed to write their final exams are also being prevented from writing mock examinations due to their inability to pay their school fess and registration fees.
Hon. Kofi Osei Ameyaw who was speaking on Adom FM’s Dea Meehu yi programme on Wednesday night named the affected schools as Akwamuman, Agyina, Apegusu, Anum and Boso and urged government to see the development as priority and find appropriate measures to remedy the situation, as he also finds a way of assisting the affected students.
He noted that about 150 students in Akwamuman Secondary students have been denied the opportunity of writing the mock examinations because they couldn’t pay the School and registration fees.
The MP added that he was touched to see the students sitting under trees while others gallivanted fearing this could affect their academic performance.
He wondered what the situation could be in other districts as cost of living is high across the country, adding that the future of the students must be safeguarded.
