The Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea has urged government to hasten slowly in dismissing the fresh revelations by the firebrand NPP MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyepong that there exists a ‘Castle Account’ in which monies from the Alfred Woyome judgment debt were deposited to be forwarded to a group within government.
Hon. Kennedy Agyepong on Thursday claimed on air that GHS 2.5 million out of the controversial GhC51 million judgment debt had been deposited in the said account at Castle, GHC 5 million paid into a GBC account as payment of TV coverage for Prez. Mills re-election during the NDC’s recent Presidential candidate contest in Sunyani while a whopping 30 million was paid to contractors building a supposed NDC party headquarters.
A Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was quick on air to dismiss the allegation saying nothing exists like a ‘Castle Account’ in which an amount from the GHc51 million awarded to the NDC financier was paid into.
He also stated that there are no records to indicate that GhC 5 million was also paid into the accounts of the nation broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), as alleged by Hon. Agyepong, adding that government is even yet to settle amounts it owns GBC for coverage of the ruling NDC congress held in Sunyani last year.
However speaking on Metro TV’s ‘Good Morning Ghana’ show, Hon. Nana Akomea stated that it would be in the best interest of the government to take its time to investigate the issues put out by Ken Agyepong rather than publicly rubbishing it.
“Ken Agyepong is the same man who brought up this Woyome scandal into the public domain and he has waged a crusade to get to the end of this controversial matter, he appears to know very much about this case and he has some documents to back his case and so if he says something one must be careful’ he said.
Nana Akomea said he is yet to lay hands on the new documents, adding that the party will state its position on this case after it thoroughly study it.
