The Member of Parliament for Jaman South, Yaw Maama Afful, says he is not the least threatened by reports that the Spokesperson for the erstwhile Armed Forces Regulatory Council (AFRC) Junta, Osahene Boakye Gyan, is preparing to contest the seat.

According to him, even if Boakye Gyan’s nomination is approved by the ruling NDC party, winning the Jaman South seat will be practically impossible as he (Boakye Gyan) is a spent force and has done nothing in the constituency to win him a seat.

The announcement of Osahene Boakye Gyan’s intent to contest on the NDC’s ticket has been described as an irony and has also generated a lot of political discussion because of his aversion for EX President Jerry Rawlings, whom he fell out with after the 1979 coup, but who incidentally is the founder of the the same party (NDC) on whose ticket he wants to contest.

who contested the 2008 general elections as an independent candidate, is currently putting things together to contest the 2012 elections on the ticket of the ruling NDC party, but his nomination will be subjected to approval by party executives should he met all the requirements.

However speaking to ghanamps.gov.gh, the Member of Parliament for Jaman South, Yaw Maama Afful states that in the unlikely event that Osahene Boakye Gyan gets the party’s nod to contest, his attempt to wrestle the seat will be an exercise in futility.

“What is Boakye Gyan’s political strength on the ground that should make me worried about him, I’m not sure he will make any impact in the 2012 parliamentary election, he will not even get votes as much as the NDC candidate in 2008 election did ’’ he said.

Hon. Maama Afful notes that his constituents attest to his brilliant performance as an MP for the area, and that achievement puts him in pole position to win the upcoming 2012 elections.
